Siheyuan: Don't Mess with Me, or You'll Regret It for the Rest of Your Life

In 1959, Xie Xing was the easiest person in the courtyard to push around. Yi Zhonghai pressured him to give up his home, Jia Zhangshi swindled him out of his money, and Silly Zhu picked on him for being honest. Everyone thought he wouldn’t survive the winter. Then, at the meeting to force him out, Xie Xing stood up and produced his mother’s keepsake: a property deed, along with a past no one knew about. From then on, the courtyard knew no peace. He joined the steel mill and became a Level Three worker after three months. He raised rabbits and earned in six months what others made in three years. When he developed new technology and Deputy Director Li stole his blueprints, Xie Xing reported him without hesitation. Later, he built tanks, planes, and rockets. Some of the people who had bullied him died, some went mad, and some spent the rest of their lives regretting it. Xie Xing, meanwhile, went from the courtyard all the way to the galaxy.
