Chronicles of the Blue Planet: Fragments of the Fourth Dimension

She was a four-dimensional fragment.

She drifted through the universe for eight hundred thousand years, passing through the dazzling brilliance of supernovae and skimming the edges of black holes. She witnessed countless breathtaking cosmic vistas, but never truly experienced emotion.

Until that spring.

Until she happened to fall onto this blue planet, landing on a patch of earth she would later name “Tenderness.”

Three in the morning, a convenience store in Shanghai.

She met a girl crouched in tears in front of the instant noodle shelf. The girl had just been abandoned by her partner after three years together. She wore a wrinkled business suit, her stockings had a run in them, and her bare feet rested on the tiled floor as she stared blankly at the noodles.

She handed her a bottle of water.

“Are you okay?”

In eight hundred thousand years, it was the first time she had spoken first.

In the end:

She looked at the character in the girl’s palm.

“Three thousand years from now, I’ll go see him.”

“I’ll remember.”
