A Monk’s Devotion: I’ll Save Only the One I Love

Wen Zhinan, the young monk from Guiyue Temple, was born with the bones of a Buddha, yet was a hopeless romantic who never took his proper duties seriously. His master told him to chant scriptures and save the world, but he would rather save money to buy rouge for a little girl. The venerable monk Xuankong declared him a Buddhist chosen one of the Age of Dharma’s Decline, destined to become a Buddha and hold back a million soldiers. But Wen Zhinan clutched his osmanthus hairpin and shook his head. “What’s the point of becoming a Buddha when I could be protecting Nianxi?”

When Su Nianxi ran off to roam the martial world, he packed his martial aunt’s secret stash and his master’s Buddhist blade, then chased after her barefoot for fifteen days. He shared food with refugees, beat up bullies, and unleashed his Buddhist power to protect just one person. When Northern Di’s iron hooves trampled across the border and heretics of the Buddhist sect tried to force him to shave his head, he stood in front of the woman he loved, blade in hand. “My Buddha saves only you. My blade cuts down anyone who hurts you!”

Amid the chaos of war, the foolish monk protected the sharp-tongued heroine. Together with veteran soldiers from Beiliang and a fallen heir, they fought their way through the Northern Mang and protected the people. His Buddhist power awakened through love, and their sweet romance grew hotter with every battle. Someone asked him if it was worth it. Wen Zhinan touched the osmanthus hairpin at Su Nianxi’s temple and smiled. “The people of the world are too far away. My people are just this one little girl in a red dress who loves snatching candy.”
