The Story After Sun Wukong

A thousand years have passed since the journey to the West was completed, and Sun Wukong, Victorious Fighting Buddha, has been meditating in the Heavenly Court. The Buddhist realm is peaceful and serene, and time flows like a river. The Great Sage Equal to Heaven who once wreaked havoc in the celestial palace seems to have had his rough edges worn away by the years. Yet undercurrents have never ceased to stir across the Three Realms. A force of chaos from primordial times has quietly awakened, corroding the foundations of the Heavenly Court and disrupting the cycle of reincarnation in the Underworld. Even the Western Pure Land has fallen under its shadow. The powers of the gods and Buddhas are suppressed, and the old order teeters on the brink of collapse. At this moment of life and death, the spiritual stone at the heart of Sun Wukong, dormant for ages, resonates with the force. It turns out he was born from the divine stone left behind after Nuwa mended the heavens, sharing the same origin as this chaotic power, and bound to both complement and oppose it. To save the Three Realms and uncover the truth of his own fate, Sun Wukong resolutely casts off his Buddhist robes and raises his Golden Cudgel once more. But this time, he must face more than an unknown enemy. He must also contend with the suspicions of former allies, old grudges within the Heavenly Court, and the desire for “absolute freedom” that has never truly died in his heart. The journey to retrieve the scriptures was about cultivating the mind; what comes after is a quest for the Dao. This road is even more perilous than the journey west. He is no longer a Buddha, nor merely a demon. He will break through the cycle of reincarnation and reshape the cosmos.
