Wang Chen, a 25-year-old office drone driven to the brink by endless overtime, spends 300 yuan of his salary on an “antique” ring at a night market. The night he puts it on, he’s dragged into a mist-shrouded wilderness, where he comes face-to-face with a hard-skinned hyena half his height.
After a life-or-death struggle, he risks everything to kill it. The next second, he finds himself back in his rented apartment, still feeling the warmth of the kill and a warm current coursing through him.
From then on, Wang Chen’s life is split in two:
On one side, in the otherworldly [Ancient God Ruins], he becomes a “butcher,” hunting mythical creatures like mad to stay alive and watching his attributes soar.
On the other, he’s still an ordinary employee in a plaid shirt, making PowerPoint presentations for his boss and getting teased by coworkers for being “too nice.”
That is, until the company’s annual party, when a newly hired sanda champion coach gets drunk and picks a fight, sneering that he’ll “teach him a thing or two.” Wang Chen walks onto the stage with an awkward look on his face, but all he can think is: Wasn’t the last descendant I chopped up a little stronger than this guy?
Awesome, this novel is really well written
