[Small-town fiction + slow-burn angst + cause and effect + devoted, wholesome romance + melodramatic plot + realistic characters + not a bad ending]
The sly, selfish little liar [Chao Yi]
The authoritarian, obsessive patriarch [Lin Yuesheng]
I’m terrible at writing blurbs that don’t spoil the story
Five years after leaving Mianjiang, Chao Yi, once a muddy little girl who never had enough to eat, has transformed herself, cast off her sordid past, and started a new life.
Then one day, she buys a bottle of her favorite drink and, for the first time, finds a “Buy One, Get One Free” prize under the cap.
Chao Yi is overjoyed. In all her life, this is the only time she’s gotten something in return without scheming for it.
Perhaps because she’s in such a good mood, she dreams of the past that night, even though she rarely dreams.
In the dream, she and Lin Yuesheng sit on the floor with popsicles in their mouths, intently clutching game controllers and frantically mashing buttons. The characters on the screen leap about. They have their mouths open, as if they’re saying something.
A light breeze stirs the pale blue gauzy curtains. Everything is peaceful and still, while the sunlight streaming through the gaps is blindingly bright.
Chao Yi stands dazed in the familiar living room. Her head throbs as if a flood is raging inside it, and sealed memories flicker before her, frame by frame. She walks straight up to the person in front of her and says expressionlessly, “I’m really lucky today. I won a prize.”
“Your curse doesn’t work anymore.”
“You must have forgotten me ages ago. I’m not paying back the money I owe you.”
*Not a domineering CEO-and-his-doting-wife story, and there are no wish-fulfillment moments.
*They do reunite, but this is not a story about getting back together after a breakup.
*The leads have questionable values. If you want to vent, blame the author, the real culprit.
*The professional fields mentioned in the story are there to serve the plot. Corrections are welcome if anything is inaccurate.
The author's writing is very good, and the beginning is very attractive. Come on, keep updating.
The teacher's books are as beautiful as ever, and the plot design is very good. I feel like there will be a big story behind it (I really want to know the plot behind it)
