I have been dead for five years, but my mirror is broadcasting live for me.
Xia Cheng, a forensic anchor with millions of fans, specializes in investigating haunted houses. Until that live broadcast, the photographer disappeared out of thin air in front of his eyes, the seal was intact, and the surveillance was normal. There was only a pool of steaming water left in the secret room, and a barrage floated over: "Rule 1: Don't ask where the water comes from."
The police found Chen Xiaomo's body in the basement. There was formalin in his stomach, and the DNA of the deceased five years ago was found under his fingernails. My wife Fang Ya appeared on the surveillance camera of the haunted house, but her memory of those thirty minutes was completely blank.
Even weirder, I started seeing myself in the mirror. That "I" is smiling, talking, and reaching out to pull me in.
"You are the mirror image." The other me said, "You died five years ago, and the one who is alive now is me who atones for your sins."
Behind the mirror is not a wall, but the forty-eighth world. Each level traps people who were killed, people who committed suicide, people who were replaced. Captain Zhang came in, Lao Qian came in, Su Ming also came in. We discovered that in this haunted house, every mirror is an entrance and every ring is a key.
But the scariest thing is-when we finally find the exit, the mirror world begins to collapse.
"I need one person to stay and replenish energy." Said the first person who came in.
The parents chose to stay. Team Zhang chose to stay. Everyone was waving at us in the mirror.
I took Fang Ya's hand and fell back to reality from the mirror. Behind him, the door slowly closed, leaving only one line of words on the mirror:
"Don't believe in the end. Because there's always a beginning."
The mirror lives for me, and I die for the mirror—we are all in the mirror.
