Three years ago, my older brother died in the Mirror Realm, leaving behind just one sentence:
"Don't follow the script. The Mirror Realm feeds on those who obey."
Three years later, Lu Chen, a bit-part actor, changed a scene that was meant to end in certain death with just two lines in the script for a haunted-night inn.
He discovered that he could see plot holes, rewrite the lines of death, and become an actor in the Mirror Realm who couldn't be controlled.
But after accompanying the female director Su Qingyan through one deadly set after another, he discovered that every script pointed to the same truth:
The Mirror Realm is a prison for human emotions.
To become a god is to lock yourself in the play forever.
"I'm not an award-winning actor. I'm just someone who wants to live.
This time, I'll finish my own story."
