Xiao Jingyuan, the Great Jing dynasty’s foremost do-nothing emperor, lies flat to hold on to his throne and spends his days in easygoing comfort. Then he happens to take in a theatrical little eunuch as his personal attendant!
Nianzi seems timid and clumsy, but is actually Su Nian, a loyal official’s orphaned daughter whose entire family was executed. Disguised as a boy, she infiltrates the palace, using award-winning acting to earn her keep, investigate wrongful convictions, and toy with powerful ministers.
The emperor sees through her disguise from the start, but plays along. He complains that she’s always putting on a show while secretly taking her side. She uses the emperor’s authority to get close to her enemies, but amid their ridiculous daily antics, she gradually finds herself falling for this do-nothing ruler.
Powerful ministers lurk all around them, and her identity could be exposed at any moment. Her path to revenge is fraught with danger, yet this emperor and his attendant somehow turn the imperial palace into a comedy stage!
Watch this theatrical eunuch bring down a treacherous chancellor and clear her family’s name, and see how the do-nothing emperor is swept off his feet, takes charge, and ultimately dotes on his personal attendant until he makes her his one and only empress!
