1979: Starting Out as Lei Dongbao, I Become a Tycoon

[Period drama + farming + entrepreneurship + everyday life + if you only like brainless wish fulfillment, read with caution]

The good news: I transmigrated.

The bad news: I landed in 1979, dirt-poor.

The worse news: I transmigrated into Lei Dongbao, the protagonist of the period drama I wrote, a hotheaded man destined to lose his wife young and end up in prison.

The worst news: My only golden finger, my cheap brother-in-law, a chairman of a Fortune 500 company in the future, currently can’t stand the sight of me. He thinks I’m an illiterate thug trying to trick his sister!

I helped the villagers set up a contract farming business. He sneered: “Speculation and profiteering. It’s bound to end badly.”

I built a brick factory to boost the local economy. He frowned: “You’re polluting the environment. So short-sighted.”

I gave his sister a flower. He blocked the doorway and said, “Stay away from my sister!”

Me: “…”

(Flips the table) I’m done sucking up to this big shot! Whatever!

I kept my head down and focused on business, building factories, repairing roads, and earning foreign currency. Before I knew it, I’d turned that little backwater village into the richest village in the country.

A few years later, my brother-in-law, now executive vice president of Donghai Refining and Chemical, came to see me with a complicated expression.

“Brother-in-law, the higher-ups want you to advise the new special economic zone… Also, my sister asked me to find out when you might have time to take her to the movies.”

Me, raising an eyebrow: “I’m busy negotiating a deal worth tens of billions with Hong Kong businessmen!”

Agriculture and animal husbandry, food, textiles, manufacturing, retail… The industries he built with his own hands spread across the globe.
