When Zhuyin Opens Its Eyes: The Shan Hai Chessboard
When modern girl Zhu Ling touches a fragment of a “dragon-scale fossil” at an auction, the scales at her collarbone burn with pain. She turns out to be a descendant of Zhuyin, the “God of Zhong Mountain” from the Classic of Mountains and Seas! The instant she touches it, her eyes turn crimson and slit-pupiled, and a burst of blinding light erupts, marking the first appearance of Zhuyin's gaze. She is dragged into ancient secrets: the apocalyptic prophecy that Zhuyin “makes day when it looks, and night when it closes its eyes” is drawing near, and fragments of “breath soil,” which seal its power, are being fought over by many sides.
The tomb guardian, Master Xuangui, reveals the truth: Zhuyin is not a god of destruction, but a victim sealed away by traitors in ancient times. To uncover the truth, Zhu Ling assembles the mercenary Chixiao, who has a scar on his left cheek and excels at tracking; Qing Li, a nine-tailed fox with unparalleled illusions; and Shi Gandang, a silent stone giant who serves as their shield. Together, they form the “Shan Hai Survivors Squad.”
From a showdown in the Qingqiu illusion realm, to quelling chaos at the pillar-shaking Mount Buzhou, to a vision of Guixu opening its eyes, the squad edges closer to the truth with every adventure. After collecting all three pieces of breath soil, Zhu Ling uncovers the secret of Zhuyin's betrayal and slumber. But then Ling Tian, master of the Starwatch Pavilion, makes a dramatic entrance with a black-aura compass. The imperial guards close in, stars fall from the sky, and the squad is trapped in an impossible dilemma: “Awaken the apocalypse, or stop defying heaven.”
As day and night fall into disarray and the seasons lose their order, what move will this girl, who bears the blood of a god, make? Will she protect all living beings, or clear the name of a “god”? With the Classic of Mountains and Seas as its canvas, The Day Zhuyin Opened Its Eyes depicts the brilliance of humanity amid a chess game of gods and demons. Every chapter previews a scene worthy of a short drama. Join the ultimate showdown between light and darkness!
