The late emperor dies, and a young emperor ascends the throne. To balance the factions at court, the empress dowager issues an imperial decree arranging a marriage: General Huo Zhao of the Northern Garrison and Left Chancellor Xie Mingyue are to wed that very day.
Huo Zhao has guarded the frontier for ten years. From then on, the capital gains a “loving couple” who appear perfectly courteous to each other but are really partners in crime. She helps investigate the military funds case; the other helps pacify the border. At court, they play off one another, and behind the scenes, they join forces to stir up trouble.
Until one day, Huo Zhao realizes she looks at Xie Mingyue in a very different way, and Xie Mingyue realizes she spends more and more time calculating Huo Zhao's schedule
