I worked overtime until nine and spotted a gorgeous woman in red, curvy in all the right places.
I followed her, hoping to see her face. She turned around. Her face was deathly pale, and her mouth stretched all the way to her ears.
Then she threw herself at me...
And passed right through me.
She lunged again, and passed through me again.
On her third try, I sucked her into my body, and she turned into a puddle of water.
Me: "???"
The next day, I found I could walk through walls.
My first thought: the bathhouse!
Then I stumbled into the women's bath and saw a seventy-year-old granny taking a bath.
She screamed, I screamed, and every old man and woman in town remembered me.
On the third day, my supervisor invited me to dinner. He dumped a plate of duck blood into the hot pot. As he ate, blood started running from his eyes, drop by drop, into the pot.
I slammed the table and jumped up. "I freaking hate duck blood!!!"
I grabbed a beer bottle and smashed it over his head.
Only later did I learn that ghosts were real, that there were "impostors" who had been replaced by ghosts, and that the state had an agency called the Paranormal Affairs Bureau dedicated to dealing with them.
And me? A transmigrated office drone with a soul like a vacuum. When ghosts pounced on me, it was like getting food delivered.
From then on, I spent my days at work and my nights eating ghosts.
Evil spirits? Nutritional supplements.
Impostors? A bonus takeout order.
The Paranormal Affairs Bureau thought I was an unparalleled master. The impostors thought I was one of their big shots. Only I knew the truth:
I was just an unlucky guy who tried to check out a pretty girl and ended up eating a female ghost.
Until one day, I discovered that the Ghost Kings were plotting a great conspiracy.
And the only way to stop them was to refine myself into a spirit banner and trap every ghost inside it.
Fine.
If you can't make it as a ghost, join your brothers in the Ten Thousand Souls Banner.
Oh, right. I think that banner even has my face printed on it.
