Amid the Apocalypse's Extreme Heat, I Stockpiled an Ice Warehouse

Lin Wanwan died. Her stepmother shoved her onto asphalt heated to 73 degrees, scorching her alive until she was nothing but a dried-out husk. Only before her death did she learn that her stepmother had seized all of her father’s inheritance, her younger sister had tricked her into giving up the password to the cold-storage facility her mother had left her, and the supplies she had painstakingly stockpiled had become someone else’s lifeline. When she opened her eyes again, it was seven days before the extreme-heat apocalypse arrived. This time, she secured the inheritance in advance and frantically stockpiled water, food, and equipment, turning the underground cold-storage facility into the apocalypse’s strongest fortress. When the outdoor temperature soared to 65 degrees and the entire city lost water and power Her stepmother knelt at the door, begging to be let in. “Wanwan, Mom was wrong. Please, just give me some water!” Holding a glass of chilled watermelon juice, Lin Wanwan watched that twisted face on the monitor and smiled softly. “When you left me to bake into jerky last time, you didn’t call yourself my mother.” Outside the door was hell. Inside was paradise. And she was the only one with the power of life and death.
