She didn't even dare to resist - because she was never allowed to "be herself". This "caged bird" setting allows her every growth to be traced: it is not that she becomes stronger when she encounters love, but in the sense of security of being loved unconditionally by Lu Ye, the self that has been suppressed for twenty years finally dares to peek out.
The male protagonist Lu Ye is just the opposite. Without his parents, he has been working in the black market since he was a child. He has seen blood in the army. After being discharged and returning to the village, he lives like a lone wolf in the wild. He doesn't understand any big principles, he only knows that "no one can bully my people."
