At nineteen, Lin Rui gives up an acceptance letter from a prestigious university, within easy reach, and follows in his father's footsteps into the Huaguo Army's most demanding special operations brigade.
From a naive new recruit stepping into the barracks for the first time to a stubborn young man gritting his teeth through brutal training, from the hail of bullets in border anti-drug operations to life-or-death raids against international terrorism, Lin Rui is tempered by blood and fire, shedding his inexperience and shouldering his mission.
Surviving against the odds in the Gobi Desert, lying in wait deep in tropical jungles, life-or-death showdowns in urban counterterrorism, shouldering the duty of protecting his country while serving overseas... Every mission is a brush with death, and every farewell is a test of life and death.
He has witnessed comrades fall, borne the crushing weight of his missions, and guarded borderlands no one even knew about, yet he has never let go of the rifle in his hands or wavered in his faith.
This is the epic coming-of-age story of a Chinese special forces soldier, and the tale of a group of young servicemen who forge a blade to defend their country with their youth, their passion, and even their lives.
With the youth of our generation, we protect a prosperous China; with a soldier's pride, we forge an invincible military spirit!
