[Reunion after years apart | Seven years | Both leads are faithful]
[Content warning: They're awkward and complicated after reuniting, and making up takes a long time.]
She sees Liang Yan again at a gathering.
The instant he sees her, his eyes turn red,
while she simply raises her champagne glass and smiles gracefully.
Seven years ago,
Wen Zhao received Liang Yan's breakup message the day after she'd made plans to return home.
He told her she was too spoiled.
Every word pinned nineteen-year-old her in place.
She didn't cry or beg him to stay. She just watched him turn and walk into the rain, his departing figure so resolute it was as if he'd never loved her.
When she missed home most in a foreign country, she even wrote his name to the moon at night.
She planned out their whole future, piece by piece, but all he needed to end it was four words:
You're too spoiled.
The year they broke up, his family fell on hard times, while she was young, thriving, and full of promise. He cruelly pushed her away.
He decided on his own to cut her out of his future, then took comfort in his own pain and congratulated himself for it.
She hated that it never occurred to him to plan a future together, and that he never considered she had a say.
He owed her the words, “We'll face it together.”
Seven years later,
she's now a sought-after architectural designer, successful and living the life she wanted.
At last, he no longer needs to “do what's best for her.”
Later, he holds her and says in a hoarse voice, “I didn't mean what I said back then.”
Wen Zhao looks up at him. “I know.”
Eyes red, he asks, “Can we start over?”
Seven years later, she's here to collect on the debt he owes her for calling her “spoiled.”
“Liang Yan,” she says with a smile, her eyes clear and bright, “You thought I was too spoiled back then, so why are you...”
She pauses briefly.
“...turning around and crying like a dog now?”
