A Rebellious Heiress Who Keeps Republican-Era Tycoons in Check

Shen Nanxing, the only daughter of Nancheng's richest man, dreams that she is the tragic female rival in a Republic of China novel, destined to be bullied and possessed by four warlord heroes before her family is destroyed. She wakes, looks at the invitation, and sneers. Then she converts the entire family fortune into gold bars and bankrolls a down-and-out scholar who will one day unite the land but is currently wanted by the authorities. Warlord One says, “Come with me, and your Shen family will stay rich and powerful.” She turns around and funds his sworn enemy. Warlord Two says, “Reject me, and you'll lose your position as head of the Chamber of Commerce.” She turns around and gives the position to a workers' representative. While she has all the powerful men running around in chaos, the scholar she alone supported is already standing outside her home in a crisp military uniform, his troops lined up behind him. He personally leads the funeral procession for her father, the venerable gentleman who was among the first to support him. In front of thousands, he salutes her. “Miss Shen, the revolution you funded has succeeded. Now I'm here to protect you.”
