The Passing of Immortality

After transmigrating into a xianxia world, Lin He gains a bizarre ability: whenever he burns his lifespan and tears apart his soul, he can gain power enough to overturn heaven and earth.

He uses it to save the people, make close friends, and meet the love of his life, climbing step by step to the summit. Yet he gradually discovers that the people he saves quickly forget him, the Heavenly Dao he comprehends is always corrected by an unseen hand, and even his lover's tears carry the bitter taste of disinfectant.

Until the final battle, when he faces the ineffable Heavenly Dao and finally hears the faint ticking that has accompanied him all his life, and learns where it comes from.

"So," he says with a faint smile at the empty sky, "my whole life was nothing but a... grand and lonely delirium at the end of life."
