At two thirty-seven in the morning, I discovered that everyone in the company was performing some kind of silent ceremony under surveillance.
They face northwest, their hands folded at impossible angles, like a group of puppets manipulated by invisible threads. Under the infrared camera, their eyes were too wide to match the proportions of humans.
The next day, no one remembered the incident.
The coffee machine in the pantry was operating as usual, Manager Zhang was still urging for quarterly reports, and Li Li complained about the crowding of the subway. Everything was as usual, except that a blank emoticon of a paper person suddenly began to circulate in the company group - a pale face, two balls of blush, and a line of words under the empty eyes: "Please save after receiving it."
I'm the only person in the company who hasn't clicked "add to emoticons" yet.
They are also the only ones who can still see them facing northwest in the late night surveillance, waiting for new members to join.
And just now, my phone vibrated.
It was a private message from Li Li:
"Save it quickly, everyone is waiting for you (smiley face)"
