My name is Qin Chengjie.
Born in 1981 in Longshui Town. My father gave me this name because he wanted me to be successful.
In the summer of 2000, I offended Mr. Li Laosi from the dock because of a woman. That night I stood at the entrance of the alley holding the steel pipe, not knowing that I would stand on the extension line of that night for the rest of my life.
I met many people, and they all taught me one thing: some roads are not chosen by oneself, but are walked with no retreat behind you and this is the only one left in front of you.
I started as a coolie at the dock and became the leader of the largest criminal group in Jincheng within ten years. Everyone yelled for beatings, and the family members were humiliated. I gave my parents, brother, and lover everything I needed materially, except that I couldn't return to the innocent and clean self I was in the summer of 2000.
I regret it. I'm glad too.
There are no good guys or purely bad guys in this book. There was only one young man from Longshui Town, pushed by fate, step by step into the vast night on the other side of the Yellow River.
His name was Qin Chengjie until his death.
