"Lin'an Monsters" is a Chinese-style fantasy unit series set in the Southern Song Dynasty. The secret agency "Shan Hai Division" travels through the prosperity of Lin'an and the mist of Jiangnan, specializing in investigating hundreds of strange phenomena caused by people's resentment, historical trauma and the decline of national destiny.
This series builds a grand system of "nine spirits and hundreds of strange things" and plans 108 independent strange cases. Monsters do not arise out of thin air, but originate from the nine original "foreign energies" of "gold, wood, water, fire, earth, wind, thunder, light and darkness", which correspond to the rift between human heart and nature such as the hatred of war, the obsession with immortality, the sorrow and joy of drowning, and the passionate desire. Each story can be read independently, with both historical texture and Chinese horror aesthetics; at the same time, all the cases are quietly connected through the rise and fall of the "Shanhai Division" and the dark thread of the apocalypse, jointly weaving a strange picture of a dynasty gradually collapsing from within.
Here, strange stories are not only strange stories, but also a dark bronze mirror that reflects history and human nature.
