Other people live in haunted houses because they’re afraid of ghosts. I live in one because I’m afraid of missing an update.
Ever since I put on a wooden bracelet passed down through my family, I’ve unlocked a new path to wealth: kill ghosts, write about ghosts, submit my work, and get paid. Other writers spend money on research trips; I make money on mine. Other Taoist priests exorcise demons with talismans; when I exorcise them, I even have to write dialogue for the protagonist.
I thought I was finally on my way to the top, until my editor sent me a message:
“Put off your next update again, and I’ll give your address to the families of the vengeful ghosts you wrote off.”
The gist: This story is entirely fictional, but the update reminders are real.
