Lie Flat and Grow Stronger in the 1970s: Raising My Daughter to Wear a General's Stars

[Period setting + everyday life + devoted dad + doting husband + tycoon]

Li Weiguo has been reborn, back in the 1970s, an era of scarce food and clothing when everything requires ration coupons. All he wants is a good place to settle down, bask in the sun every day, and live as a carefree, idle, top-tier slacker.

Who could have guessed that one moment of compassion would lead him to rescue a widowed mother and her orphaned daughter from the village bully?

From then on, all his life plans go completely out the window.

The pretty widow Su Wanqing looks at him with tear-filled eyes. “Comrade Li, I’ll wash your clothes and cook for you. Could you... could you give Niuniu and me a place to live?”

Little Niuniu timidly tugs at his sleeve. “Uncle, I don’t eat much.”

One of them will become the richest person in the world, and the other a five-star female general.

What can he do? He’ll raise them, of course.

But all he wants is to lie flat!

To make sure the mother and daughter have enough to eat, he casually digs up a wild ginseng root in the mountains and trades it for a huge fat pig, stunning the whole village.

To keep his stepdaughter from being bullied at school, he casually shows off a few farming tricks, and even the brigade chief has to ask him to serve as a technical advisor.

To keep his wife from becoming the subject of gossip, he casually hums a tune from the future. A leader from the cultural troupe hears him and insists on hiring him as a composer.

Su Wanqing: “Weiguo, how do you know how to do everything?”

Niuniu: “Uncle, you’re my dad!”

Li Weiguo pulls his straw hat over his face. “Don’t ask, don’t praise me, and don’t disturb me while I’m sunbathing. I just want to be useless!”

Years later, when little Niuniu has become a heroine bearing the stars of a general, a reporter asks her, “Who raised you?”

Niuniu points to the man beneath the old pagoda tree at the village entrance, leisurely waving a palm fan.

“My dad. A man whose lifelong dream was simply a warm home with his wife and children.”
