Poetry Stirs the Great Tang

Lu Shaoyou, a modern graduate student in Chinese literature, accidentally transmigrates to the twenty-third year of the Kaiyuan era and awakens in the body of a down-and-out scholar who has passed out drunk outside Chang'an. He discovers that he’s in the glorious Tang Dynasty of Li Bai, the age when “the Son of Heaven could summon him, but he refused to board the imperial barge.” He even rescues the real Poet Immortal from a gang of pursuers at a ruined temple! Drawing on the poetry and literary insight he accumulated in his previous life, Lu Shaoyou bursts onto the scene as a revolutionary of seven-character quatrains. He outshines Wang Changling at the Wild Goose Pagoda poetry gathering, composes a hundred poems over wine in Pingkang Ward, and even catches Li Longji’s attention, earning an invitation to compete in a poetry contest at the Golden Chime Hall. As he tries to reshape the landscape of Tang poetry with modern ideas, he gets caught up in the struggle between Li Linfu and Zhang Jiuling for the chancellorship, and even matches wits with An Lushan in secret. Watch as this “transmigrated Poet Immortal” stirs up the winds of the High Tang and makes verses from a thousand years in the future shine ahead of their time!
