Shen Qingxue, the legitimate daughter of the Prime Minister’s household, was the apple of everyone’s eye before she turned one. Her parents were deeply in love, and life was peaceful.
But an imperial decree shattered that peace. Her father took a concubine, and her younger twin siblings were born, transforming her world.
The affection she had once known turned to distance. Her mother was framed and drowned in a pond, and she fell from the clouds into the mire. Only her cousin, the Seventh Prince Xiao Jing, remained a glimmer in the darkness, protecting her tenderly and preserving the last warmth in her heart.
When she was twelve, at the imperial hunting grounds, she risked her life to save the Crown Prince from an assassin. But her half-sister Shen Qingyao took credit for it, and the Crown Prince’s promise to make her his empress became another blade turned against her.
From then on, her innocence was gone. Shen Qingxue dried her tears and concealed her sharp edge in the inner quarters, learning martial arts and poisons and laying her plans one step at a time, all for the day she could take revenge.
She and Xiao Jing loved each other and promised to spend their lives together, yet they could not escape fate’s cruel tricks. After ascending the throne, the Crown Prince became enamored with the graceful young woman. Using unrest on the border as an excuse, he sent Xiao Jing to war, promising to grant their marriage upon his return, though he was really hiding his own selfish motives...
