Xiaoman, Don't Cry! Your Eight Uncles from the Military Regions Have Your Back

Her name is Zhao Xiaoman, and she is three and a half years old. In the Zhao family, she is an "eyesore and a burden," never getting enough to eat or warm enough clothes. She does not even dare to cry out loud. In the Cheng family, she is the long-lost treasure of their hearts, and all eight of her uncles fiercely take her side: Her stern eldest uncle pursues justice by the book, her military doctor uncle uses reports to silence her critics, and her instructor uncle lays down rules to keep her safe... Xiaoman also has a little secret she keeps hidden: an old jade pendant contains a small space where she can grow vegetables, store things, and draw sweet water from a well. Amid the hustle and bustle of the 1990s, she slowly learns to stand up for herself: When she needs to complain, she does. When she feels wronged, she cries. There is always someone in the Cheng family ready to catch her.
