I’m Li Zheng, formerly known by the codename “Flat-Headed Bro,” an unaffiliated member of the assassin world, now retired.
I found a new job at “Jackfruit” Company, earning 5,800 a month. I drink milk tea and clock out on time every day. My motto is to take it easy while getting paid.
Then came the annual party, where a few clueless “wild dogs” tried to wreck the place. Instinctively, I used a cake fork to fulfill the ultimate duty of an administrator: maintaining a stable office environment, by force.
The next day, the HR director presented me with a banner reading “Stray-Dog Buster.” The bonus was a hundred yuan, along with a permanent extra duty: “Canine Behavior Observer.”
In short: dog watcher.
Holding the banner, I got it. Jackfruit: sweet on the outside, hard at the center.
Sure enough, that very night, the “Mastiffs” came knocking. I quietly opened my desk drawer. There were no guns inside, just a stack of receipts waiting to be filed and a well-worn paper clip polished smooth with use.
They play at crushing people with capital. I play administrative magic. We can all work ourselves to the bone.
After several days of “overtime dog-watching,” my coworkers praised how dedicated I was to gaming. Only Su Xiao, the new intern, leaned closer as I put in eye drops. Her big eyes were clear and innocent as she asked:
“Senior, you don’t even blink when you’re ‘taking out dogs’...”
“Are you in or not?”
Oh no!! That tone, that rhythm, that deadly curiosity...
Why is it exactly like the little menace in my memories, the one who cost me three ribs when I went chasing after them?!
