In an old bungalow shaded by parasol trees in the French Concession in Shanghai, 26-year-old cultural relics restorer Su Li is working on repairing a Song Dynasty glazed heart lamp. She didn't know that this light would illuminate a love epic that spanned three eras and entwined the fate of three generations.
In the early autumn of 1937, the first owner of the Liuli Heart Lamp, Lin Wanqing, the daughter of a prominent family in Jiangnan, met Lu Huaijin, an architect who had returned from studying in France, in the family library. He was hired to design an "unsinkable academy" for her home, and she led him to find the construction code codes scattered in ancient books. During the artillery fire of the Battle of Songhu, Lu Huaijin used his life to fulfill his promise to Lin Wanqing: he hid the design of the academy in the interlayer of the glass heart lamp and let her escape to Hong Kong with the lamp.
In the late winter of 1978, the glass heart lantern was transferred to a corner of the warehouse of a pawn shop in Central, Hong Kong. Xu Mingyue, the daughter of the antique shop owner, discovered it while sorting out the relics. A hand-drawn architectural drawing inside the lamp attracted the attention of young architect Gu Yanshen. He is the grandson of Lu Huaijin and returned from London with his grandfather's unfulfilled wishes. Xu Mingyue and Gu Yanshen became friends because of lamps, but they became rivals due to family business competition. They faced each other during the demolition and protection of the Kowloon Walled City, and gradually fell in love while working together to repair a glazed lamp. When Gu Yanshen discovered that the secret of his grandfather's design was related to Xu Mingyue's family, the grievances of the previous generation flooded back.
In the spring of 2019, Su Li completed the restoration of the glazed heart lamp and accidentally discovered a stack of yellowed design drawings and two love letters spanning eighty years in the mezzanine. She met Lu Chenzhou, an architect from Hong Kong - Gu Yan at the exhibition.
