Lin Xiaoman is reborn as a jinx. Thunder strikes at her birth, and the clan elders abandon her in a frigid pool. An old beggar takes her in and raises her on coarse rice. At three, she uses divination to predict a lost chicken. The villagers are first astonished, then terrified, as a mist attacks the village and a bloody fog swallows a hundred people. She uses her broken leg to hold back a tide of corpses, then draws a talisman on a diaper to drive the fog away for three breaths. She obtains a battered compass that can draw cards and awaken the "Husband-Blessing Physique." Memories of her former life as an overworked corporate drone return, and she learns that heaven and earth will collapse into ruin within ten years. She vows not to be cannon fodder, but to become the ruler of the mist. She tears up diapers to draw a formation that summons a spirit spring, then builds a thatched hut and takes in adorable orphaned children. After studying the stars at night, she draws the "Mist Travel Safety Chart" and ends up wanted by the authorities. She plays dumb to fool them, steals remnants of ancient scriptures from the library, and pieces together a diagram of an ancient mech. A wooden bird takes flight, an iron egg awakens, and a humming rises from the depths of the mist. From jinx to savior, she defies fate through metaphysical cultivation!
