Three hundred years after the pilgrimage to the West for Buddhist scriptures was completed, auspicious clouds still linger at the foot of Lingshan Mountain, and the light of the Buddha shines everywhere.
The black bear spirit—now known as the "Great God of Mountain Guarding"—stands on the sentry post on the mountain behind Guanyin Temple, his black gold armor glowing with a dull luster in the setting sun. Three hundred years have passed since he was subdued by Guanyin Bodhisattva and given the duty of guarding the mountain. Day after day, he has stood on this land shrouded in Buddha's light, guarding this Zen forest that he once wanted to claim as his own.
