Reborn: Cherish What's Before You

When Pang Mengying opened her eyes again, the cold of her final moments in her previous life still lingered at her fingertips. For more than twenty years, she had been trapped in the prison of “perfection.” She demanded flawless beauty and a pure soul, and chased after the passionate love and happy marriage everyone praised. She had been dealt a winning hand, yet her constant fear of losing it wore away the family she loved and the warm moments she had shared with them, until all were reduced to nothing. Only as she lay dying did she finally understand: the perfection she had spent her life pursuing was no more than a reflection of flowers in a mirror, a moon in water. The ordinary days she had once scorned were where the true meaning of happiness lay. Fortunately, Heaven gave her a chance to start over. Reborn, Pang Mengying shed her old stubbornness and blind devotion. She stopped obsessing over what others thought and learned to cherish each moment instead. She learned to cook her parents a bowl of hot porridge and leave a light on when her beloved came home late. Her transformation caught the eye of a man who had served in the special forces. He stood straight as a pine, with a will as strong as steel, yet beneath his brows lay a tenderness no one knew about. The military camp’s strict discipline could not keep two hearts from drawing close. They shared a bottle of soda during breaks in training and watched the sunset side by side on the way back to their units. When she frowned, he awkwardly offered her a piece of candy; when he was tired, she quietly smoothed the creases in his uniform. There were no grand vows, only a love that grew steadily over time.
