A Mortal Beneath the Heaven-Connecting Sage
Modern office worker Lin Yan dies suddenly from overwork. When he opens his eyes, he has fallen into the primeval wilderness, where the world is just beginning. Ferocious beasts surround him, and his life hangs by a thread. Fortunately, the Sage Tongtian saves him with his Qingping horsetail whisk and takes him in as an outer disciple of the Jie Sect, making him the most unusual mortal disciple on Golden Turtle Island.
With no innate lineage, no ancient bloodline, and only middling talent, he should be little more than an ant in a wilderness teeming with gods and demons, where all vie for the Great Dao. Yet armed with a modern mind and foreknowledge of the world's great events, he breaks restrictions, seeks out spiritual treasures, and comprehends the Great Dao. In the Jie Sect, which welcomes disciples regardless of their background, the sage Qingping guides him, while fellow disciples Duobao, the Three Xiao Sisters, Zhao Gongming, and others offer their wholehearted support. With his mortal body, he knocks step by step on the gates of the Dao, progressing from Qi Refining to Foundation Establishment and then Golden Core, fighting his way through every obstacle.
The war between the Liches and Demons engulfs the wilderness. The currents of the Investiture of the Gods calamity stir beneath the surface, the struggle over orthodoxy grows fiercer, and danger lurks everywhere. Armed with mortal weapons and refined spells, he protects his sect. As a disciple of the Jie Sect, he tempers his Dao heart in a chaotic age and grows stronger against the tide amid the waves of calamity.
From venturing into the Eastern Sea to claim a Blackwater Pearl, to defending Golden Turtle Island against invaders, to braving the wilderness and breaking through seemingly hopeless situations, this mortal disciple never fails his master's teachings or the bonds he shares with his fellow disciples. Amid the epic sweep of the primeval wilderness, he forges a Heaven-Connecting path all his own, becoming the brightest star among the myriad immortals of the Jie Sect...
