Sai Jinhua: A Qinhuai Beauty in a Turbulent Age

She was a courtesan, yet with a single word she stopped a massacre and saved an entire city. She was the heavenly guardian goddess of the nation!

Born into poverty and sold into the world of brothels, she nevertheless stood tall on the European court and became the wife of an envoy through sheer strength of character.

When the Eight-Nation Alliance breached the city, the royal family fled west and officials and generals scattered. The city's people were lambs awaiting slaughter.

She alone entered the enemy camp, a frail woman who managed to hold the foreign powers at bay, forbid the massacre, and safeguard the dignity of her four hundred million countrymen!

Though she had served the nation, the royal family framed her, branding her a courtesan who had brought the country to ruin and a murderer who had abused a prostitute to death.

In a single night, she was cast from the altar into hell.

She married three times and spent all three marriages alone.

Everyone who loved her died for her;

everyone who protected her eventually left.

The world looked down on her, humiliated her, cursed her, and trampled on her,

never knowing how much she had carried: the city she defended, the people she saved, the blood she shed, and the injustice she endured.

When a new era dawned with the Republic of China and turmoil rose once more,

she wiped away her blood and tears and looked back with cold eyes:

“I was born into the world of brothels, but I was never lowly.

I have borne the curses of generations, and I have also received the homage of the people.

In this life, I have done right by heaven and earth, by the people, and by my own heart!”

She suffered every hardship in life, yet her name will shine through history for eternity after death!

A forbidden, long-buried secret history of a chaotic age, and the legend of a woman who defied fate to protect her nation!
