A very real novel with a strong sense of immersion. I will cry when I read the touching parts.
I finished reading this book in one day, and the delicate writing made me cry many times. When I read the story of my stepfather, I suddenly felt empathy for my father-in-law's life. The boy who was supposed to have a bright future back then gave up the college entrance examination in 1980 for the sake of his family. He was not good at words but cared about his family most of his life. However, he never gained the favor of his parents. Even the children have not received much love from other generations, which is really heartbreaking. It turns out that some grievances and regrets will really be engraved in the bones and blood, affecting two generations.
It is a really good book, with depth, fireworks, love, the acrimony between relatives, the sadness of graduation and work, and the tenacity and original intention after growing up. Very real and very positive. I feel warm in my heart after reading it.
