Lu Zhixing, a specially appointed criminal profiler with the Linjiang City Criminal Investigation Team, is as rational as a precision instrument, yet the one thing he cannot understand is the human heart. The new forensic doctor, Shen Qingyue, can touch a corpse and see its memories of death, but the price is that her own emotions are gradually fading. A professor found dead in a locked room forces these two adversaries to work together.
A black envelope, a moonlit oil painting, a long-buried police badge... The cases grow like vines, leading to the Moonlight Project, which spans twenty years, and the tangled web of the Four Great Families. As the bloody past comes into focus, it turns out that the childhood nightmare he bears and the family memories she has lost stem from the same conspiracy.
Amid a fog woven from lies and betrayal, two cold souls gradually draw closer. They must move forward side by side: he teaches her to feel the warmth of a heartbeat, while she helps him face the ice of his memories. The key to the truth lies in a death list called The Moonlight Codex. Romance and suspense intertwine as they solve crimes and heal each other’s broken worlds.
