The City's Marginalized

My childhood friend Zhang Yang got dead drunk and shoved a stack of bedroom photos at me, his eyes red as he yelled, "Help me pursue my wife, Wang Yuyan. Make her ask for a divorce, and I'll give you a share of my assets and keep you on as my driver!"

I clutched my phone, my palm sweating.

Wang Yuyan was the beloved Sister Wang I admired. She was gentle and virtuous, and had suffered so much trying to give Zhang Yang a child. Yet he fooled around behind her back and even wanted to scheme for her family fortune!

But Zhang Yang had given me this respectable job driving a Mercedes. My parents' standing in our village and my ability to make a living in the city both depended on it.

"I agree," I said through gritted teeth. That very night, I packed my things and moved into Zhang Yang's three-story villa.

Watching Wang Yuyan, dressed in a short lace skirt and looking alluringly voluptuous, smile as she tidied my room, served me soup, and gently touched my forehead to ask if I felt feverish, I was consumed by guilt.

Zhang Yang, meanwhile, smirked beside us. "Do a good job and make her fall for you. This rich sister-in-law will be yours, and you'll save yourself decades of hard work!"

I looked at the gentle, tender Sister Wang before me, then thought of Zhang Yang's threat. My heart twisted in agony.

But when Wang Yuyan appeared at my door late that night in a silk nightgown, her eyes filled with confusion and tenderness, I completely lost my composure.

In this scheme between brothers to pursue my sister-in-law, should I hold fast to my principles, or give in to the tenderness of my wealthy sister-in-law?

And Zhang Yang's scheme is far more malicious than I ever imagined!
