The Azure Dragon Heavenly Emperor’s daughter, Bai Ling, had reached marriageable age, so he asked the Matchmaker to divine her fate in love. The Matchmaker determined that her destined partner was Lingxiao, an Immortal Lord of the Celestial Court, and the Heavenly Emperor immediately arranged their marriage.
But Lingxiao already loved someone else. To get out of the engagement, he challenged the Matchmaker to a game of chess and wagered that he could find Bai Ling a new match.
Bai Chun, Bai Ling’s older sister, happened to discover this and reported it. The Heavenly Emperor flew into a rage and banished both the Matchmaker and Lingxiao to the mortal realm.
Bai Ling insisted on going down to find Lingxiao, now a mortal named Qi Fang. In truth, she wanted to have a child by him. The two became entangled in one ridiculous mishap after another, and as they spent time together, they gradually began to care for each other and change for the better.
Bai Chun tried to stop them, but unexpectedly ended up bringing them together in marriage.
The rich playboy Liang Yunshen coveted Bai Ling’s beauty and would stop at nothing to have her. He stole the Matchmaker’s magical artifact, causing him and Qi Fang to switch identities.
Bai Chun and the Matchmaker, now Qi Zhi, mistakenly took Qi Fang, who had become Liang Yunshen, for their opponent. Their clash unexpectedly awakened his memories of being Lingxiao, the Immortal Lord.
