Before Yu Sheng came along, Xu Yan had never thought about the future.
Her future had been decided the moment her mother fell ill. Caught between her parents, Xu Yan kept her head down, desperately searching the narrow gaps between them for the air she needed to survive.
Yu Sheng’s unexpected arrival knocked Xu Yan’s muddled, puppet-like life off course. Her icy face gradually began to show expressions more fitting for her age. She had someone in her heart, someone who would be her whole life: Yu Sheng.
But Yu Sheng grew more and more uncertain. Given her relationship with the young lady, she didn’t know whether the feelings blossoming in her heart could withstand the truth. The answer had always been clear, but for the first time, Yu Sheng ran away.
Yu Sheng had grown greedy, her heart tied to Xu Yan, whose words were sharp but heart was soft. She finally understood why people had so many different desires. Before she could rein herself in, Yu Sheng closed her eyes with a smile, anxiously hoping for one more day after another by Xu Yan’s side.
Even the most beautiful dream must eventually end. Xu Yan ultimately discovered why Yu Sheng had come into her life. She turned into an icy puppet once more, following her father’s plan and walking steadily into the future alone.
Yu Sheng was always the variable.
Xu Yan told Yu Sheng she hated her, that she couldn’t stand her, but held on to her tightly, leaving not the slightest gap between them. And so Yu Sheng knew: she was the young lady’s whole future.
