Shen Jin, cold and distant, ruthless in his methods × Lu Zhao, cool-headed and upright, no idealist
(There is very little romance in Volume One, which focuses mainly on Shen Jin’s experiences. Their story together begins in Volume Two.)
Fifteen years after the apocalypse began, civilization has collapsed, viruses run rampant, resources are scarce, and the law of the jungle reigns supreme. Human settlements are heavily fortified, and moral boundaries have largely crumbled.
When Shen Jin was five, he watched raiders murder his parents. He grew up alone among the ruins, surviving through theft, disguises, and killing, and honing his keen powers of observation and fighting skills.
Lu Zhao was born in Qiming City, a major safe zone. His father was a senior official there, and his mother was a medical officer. Protected by his family and the rules, he still learned about the cruelties of the apocalypse through the safe zone’s administration and reports from teams sent outside. He was never out of touch with reality.
These two, raised in very different circumstances, met by chance. Many years later, the zombie threat had greatly diminished, humanity had built several major safe zones, and civilization was gradually recovering.
