The Widowed Mother Caught the Village Hunter’s Eye

[Historical setting, countryside, satisfying revenge, ensemble cast, everyday family life. Rugged man × pretty widow + face-slapping and scumbag punishment + mutual devotion.]

In the 1970s, on a loess hillside in northern Shanxi, Lin Xiulian’s baby was only a year old when her husband died.

Her mother-in-law kept the compensation money, her aunts-in-law gossiped about her, and even the tofu seller at the village entrance shortchanged her.

Everyone thought she was an easy target without anyone to protect her.

Until one day, the notorious hunter from the edge of the village showed up at her courtyard gate with half a wild boar slung over his shoulder.

He kicked over the mother-in-law who had come to pick a fight, then swept his dark eyes over the crowd. “From now on, I’ll handle her affairs.”

The burden of making ends meet weighed on her shoulders like a mountain, so he carried it for her. Gossip stung like needles, so he shielded her from it.

When restrained concern turned into blatant favoritism, and secret feelings collided with public disapproval, she finally stopped backing down.

“Anyone who dares spread another word of gossip had better answer to me, Lin Xiulian!”

Her wretched relatives got their comeuppance, the gossips fell silent, and at last, a warm breeze blew across the loess hillside, bringing her happiness.
