People say that the swallows from the halls of the Wang and Xie families of old flew into the homes of ordinary folk. But in the Wei and Jin dynasties, the Wang, Xie, Huan, and Yu clans were geese soaring across a boundless sky, not swallows nesting above commoners’ doors. Yet in an age of chaos, even the great clans were no more than contented bugs, huddling in a corner, blind and deaf to the world. They didn’t want to hear about the common people, the realm, or their suffering, nor did they care to see or address any of it. All they thought about was how to indulge themselves and preserve their families’ prosperity for generations to come. Wang Shen was no different, until an accident suddenly shattered that life. It broke through the barrier of empty splendor and let her see the world as it truly was: a place that devoured people. What will she do? Continue living in indulgence, or take an active part in shaping the world?
