The Age of Fragrance

All things breathe; to create fragrances is to conduct their rhythm.

In the Age of Fragrance, magic isn’t incantations, but precise scent formulas. The Fragrance Weavers use three stages of scent-rhythm: explosive top notes, enduring middle notes, and stabilizing base notes. With them, they transform scent into physical matter, emotion, and even reality itself.

Zero is eighteen, the first person in history to have absolutely no scent. He has no soul Signature, so magic cannot affect him and no one can sense him. People “see but overlook” him, as though gazing at empty air. During the entrance exam at the Perfumers’ Academy, he is branded “soul-disabled” because he cannot smell the “primordial citrus of creation,” and faces exile.

But one crisis follows another. The serial killer known as the “Scent Purger” hunts high-ranking Fragrance Weavers, extracting their Signatures to make “personality perfumes.” War between the eternally frozen Northern Empire and the incense-burning Southern Republic is on the verge of erupting, as both sides vie for an ancient ruin capable of producing the “Stench of Extinction.” More terrifying still, Zero discovers that he isn’t “scentless” at all. He bears the “Tenth Fragrance,” one that even ninth-tier Fragrance Sages cannot endure: an ultimate scent never mentioned in the myths of creation, powerful enough to rewrite the very foundations of the world.

While every Fragrance Weaver pursues ever more intense scents, only this “nonexistent” boy can touch the ultimate truth of fragrance: the Infinite.
