The long-abandoned dormitory of the Hongfeng Textile Mill on the outskirts of the city is known to locals as the “Derelict Building.” Rumor has it that at midnight, people hear crying, see lights flickering, and sometimes vanish without a trace. Chen Jin, a retired detective, sneaks into the building alone to investigate, hoping to find his sister, who disappeared three years ago. But late one night, he runs into Lin Jian, an independent journalist who specializes in urban legends and has broken in to explore the place. Though they have different goals and opposing views, the two are forced to team up to solve the building’s string of bizarre incidents: tenants vanishing from locked rooms, footsteps endlessly looping through the hallways, bloody writing seeping through the walls, and a “death livestream” that appears at the same time every year. As the investigation deepens, they discover that the building’s supposed hauntings are all staged. Behind the disappearances lie a cover-up of a mine disaster from seven years ago, a mass murder to silence witnesses, and a conspiracy involving secret passageways inside the building. Every “ghostly” event is a cage laid by the killer to keep the secret buried, and Chen Jin’s sister was the last person to uncover the truth all those years ago.
