Wang Cheng, a poor mortal from Qingyang City, refuses to live like a dog. He rails against the injustice of Heaven and, at the brink of despair, obtains the Xuanyuan Ring, which contains the remnant soul of an expert from the Immortal Realm who mastered alchemy, talisman-making, and artifact forging. He tempers his body and refines his qi, while mastering all three crafts: alchemy, talisman-making, and artifact forging. Rising from a lowly mortal, he defeats powerful enemies, breaks through shackles, and defies Heaven. At last, he wields the Fate-Defying Sword and points it at the firmament, asking: What does it matter if I was born mortal? Defying Heaven is enough to ascend to immortality!
