The Knight Against the Wind

At eighteen, Chen Mo was a top student in his senior year at a prestigious high school, with a ticket to a top university within reach and youthful dreams burning in his heart. But a sudden accident left his father disabled by a workplace injury, and the family’s finances collapsed overnight. As the eldest son, he was forced to put down his schoolbooks and shoulder the burden of supporting his family, riding an old electric scooter through the city streets as a food delivery driver.

He went from campus to the streets, from solving practice problems to fulfilling orders. He endured the misery of getting hurt in rainstorms, being docked for late deliveries, and being humiliated by customers. Along the way, he also met a retired librarian who gave him books, an illustrator who showed him kindness, and a woman entrepreneur who helped him find his path in life. With the clear-headed pragmatism of a science student, he optimized his routes; with quiet resilience, he supported his family. Through wind and rain, he turned life’s “misfortune” into his own “good fortune.”

As kindness became entangled with control, feelings collided with responsibility, and the past tugged against the future, this quiet young man refused to be crushed by life. Running against the wind, he rediscovered himself, reclaimed his dignity, and carved out a path of rebirth that was modest but solidly his own. This is no rags-to-riches legend. It is the story of an ordinary person who holds on to kindness in hardship and searches for hope in the darkest of times.
