The end of the world stems from a failed global "ecological transformation plan" that caused plants to grow wildly, animals to mutate, and a hallucinogenic "spore dust" to fill the air. The zombie settings were changed to "fungus beasts" controlled by spores, as well as violent mutant animals and plants produced by drastic changes in the environment.
