Rules of the Strange Tales have descended upon the world, and humanity struggles to survive in countless eerie instances. While top players are still congratulating themselves for clearing a D-rank instance, recently unemployed Lin Che receives a gold-embossed employment offer from the "Olden Zoo." His job isn't to survive, but to handle the hiring paperwork for the SSS-rank anomalies that terrify the entire world. And so, the Slit-Mouthed Woman becomes the park's hairdresser, Sadako takes charge of screenings at the 3D cinema, and a juvenile Cthulhu works as a spa therapist at the aquarium. Taotie, who once devoured an entire city, is rolling around at the ticket booth, acting adorable in hopes of getting a bite of "rule-compliant feed." Armed with the "Zookeeper's Handbook," Lin Che rebuilds order amid the ruins. The first visitor rule: "Do not feed the administrators. Violators do so at their own risk." Then the game administrator arrives in person, staring at the empty cages meant to hold the gods and trembling as he asks, "Where is the 'apocalypse' I deployed?" Lin Che points to the world-ending entities lined up behind him for ice cream and smiles as he hands over the bill. "VIP viewing tickets are 998, and include a hands-on course in how to dismantle a rule system. Your server has been taken over by the anomalies at my zoo."
It's great. This book is great. It's one of my favorite weird books. It's great.
