Joy Above the Clouds

[Clear-headed, resilient doctor × disciplined, principled tycoon | Career growth | Breaking free and being reborn | Mutual devotion | Age gap | A guiding, supportive lover]

Lin Yue, a top student at Yichang Medical University, took a job as a doctor at Qianshi Airport to escape the suffocating grind of endless hospital shifts. She thought a change of scenery would finally let her catch her breath, but then she was seconded elsewhere.

There she met a mentor and friend, and the benefactor of her life: Shen Yanjin, with sharp brows, bright eyes, and a talent for planning several moves ahead.

Her boyfriend, Cheng Huai, was busy buying a house and setting a wedding date. From choosing a place to paying the down payment, he never once asked what she thought. The fairness and respect she wanted crumbled to dust amid calculations over “premarital assets” and “bride price by bank transfer.”

He told her, “Don't stay stuck where you are.” He taught her how to “manage upward,” and shielded her from the storms brewing out of sight.

He took her home in the middle of the night and stayed by her side until her IV was finished, then pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.

“Lin Yue, I like you.”

“Love is the willing surrender of free will.”

A good relationship isn't a wedding date you're pushed toward. It's having someone beside you as you look at the world with clear eyes, then head together toward the light.
