On June 5, 1941, Japanese bombers attacked Chongqing at night, and the Eighteen-Staircase Tunnel tragedy occurred. Thirteen survivors including Chen Dali and Su Wanqing spontaneously organized an anti-Japanese squad of Thirteen Heroes to go out to Sichuan to fight against the Japanese. They moved to Wuhan, Nanjing and Shanghai, specializing in assassinating Japanese pilots, senior officials, and traitors, destroying Japanese poison gas depots and arsenals, and trying every means to blow up Japanese aircraft. There were successes and failures, but they persisted in resisting Japan to the end. When they moved to Shanghai, except for Su Wanqing who survived by chance, Chen Dali and other twelve people all died.
